i went to visit her a week before she died, and she looked beautiful. her hair was always curled — appointment every thursday, thank you very much — but she wore it straight now because she couldn’t really make it out of bed, much less out of the house. the hospice nurse told my father and i that grandmother was experiencing a “rally day” — she was eating, and seemed to feel ok. the nurse told us this typically happened near the end. i told grandmother that straight hair was a good look for her.
